Dr. Valdez is a first generation college graduate and alumnus of the California State University system (CSUF, CSULB, and CSUDH) where he earned a Bachelor of Science in Human Services, a second major in Ethnic Studies with an emphasis in Chicano Studies, a Master of Science in Counseling with an emphasis in School Counseling and a Pupil Personnel Services credential, and a credential in School Administration respectively. In addition, Dr. Valdez earned his Doctor of Education in Educational Leadership with an emphasis in Higher Education from the University of Southern California.
Currently, Dr. Valdez leads several programs that sustain and support the students of the Lynwood Unified School District as Assistant Principal. In his role, he leads initiatives within student services, including campus safety, community schools, and the guidance department to increase student retention and graduation. He oversees a school wide PBIS intervention support to engage students with opportunities to reflect on behavior, establish communication, and uphold LHS’s HONOR motto. In addition, he collaborates with faculty on instructional support.
With over 16 years of experience as an educator in Higher Ed and K12 levels, Dr. Valdez has promoted college access by creating a college-bound culture on campuses. The diverse leadership roles he has held have allowed him to serve as a liaison between faculty, administration and student support programs that are beneficial for developing positive relationships that foster student success in an academic setting. Dr. Valdez, is a native of South Gate and attended Lugo Elementary.
